Little Mr. Manners
In the bid to raise polite children, it seems I've unfortunately made them into serial thankers. I was putting together a small botanical experiment for Solom when this exchange happened:
Solom: Thank you for putting the rubber band on the bottle, Mama.
Me: Solom, you're thanking me for all the wrong things!
Solom: Thank you for all the wrong things, Mama.
I can't wait for Jahan to start saying "Please" and "Thank you." I hold a cookie out to her. She immediately perks up and starts whining and reaching for it. I keep holding it out of her reach. Her whine intensifies. "Say, Please, Mama," I say. Whine. "Please, Mama." Whineeee!!!!! OK, I think this will do. I hand over the cookie. "Say, Thank you, Mama." Nom, nom, nom, nom, nom.
ReplyDeleteLots of love to Solom.
LOL!
DeleteOh Dear...but so very endearing...loads of hugs to the charming young boy.
ReplyDeleteWarm wishes
Anu
Awww thanks Anu. Big hug to you and yours.
DeleteThat would feel wonderful being thanked 'for all the wrong things'. My 2 year old niece is also a kind of serial thanker. While she is being bathed by her mom she keeps saying thanks at every step: when her mom undresses her, when she applies baby bath, when she applies shampoo, etc. I can't even list the things she is thankful for.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's sweet but it's also a sign of over-training ;-)
